Yesterday we spoke of the Subaru Bighorn. It is a rebadged Isuzu Trooper. Apparently, the Trooper was also a Honda Horizon, Holden Jackaroo, Chevrolet Trooper, Acura SLX, Opel Monterey, and Ssangyong Korando Family. The successor may be just as much of a Badge Engineering Whore.

What other cars are Badge Engineering Whores?

Ssangyong Korando Family? So the Isuzu Trooper is just a four-door Jeep Wrangler?

Kinja'd!!!

Neat.

90’s GM dust-buster minivans. They’re still sold today in China as the Buick GL8.

‘Family’ is important. Korando and Korando Family were two completely different cars.

Let me clarify: mid-to-late 90's dust-buster. But yeah, the late-80s-early-90s one were absolutely hideous.

The Trooper was also sold as the Subaru Bighorn.

I know. It's probably the rarest Subaru.

Chevrolet TrailBlazer comes to mind. It was sold as the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, Oldsmobile Bravada, Buick Rainier, Isuzu Ascender, and Saab 9-7x.

This probably doesn’t count, but the whole Japanese kei car market is guilty of this.

Currently, there are 4 manufacturers building kei cars for 8 brands.

Mitsubishi, Daihatsu, Suzuki, and Honda build kei cars, and Toyota, Subaru, Nissan, and Mazda’s kei cars are rebadged models.

Specifically, Daihatsu builds kei cars for Toyota and Subaru (though they’re technically under the same corporate umbrella), Suzuki builds kei cars for Mazda, and Nissan is the biggest example, selling rebadged Mitsubishis and Suzukis.

This also means there aren’t many models unique to a specific brand, and the one that has the most that are unique is probably Daihatsu.

Then, throw on top of that the fact that in Europe, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV (itself, an electric kei car) is also sold by Citroen (as the C-Zero) and by Peugeot (as the iOn), and also in Japan, there was another version made from 2010 to 2012, the Mitsuoka Like .

I’d imagine at least 75% of kei cars built in Japan are offered by another brand.
